Happy New Year! I know it has been quite a while since I last posted to the blog and I am very sorry for the lapse in time. A lot has been going on these winter months, but I am back and ready for more frequent posts soon for 2015. Today marks one year since I started my blog and in celebration I want to offer my readers a very special book giveaway. Before starting this blog, I had a clear idea of what general message I wanted my readers to take away from every post. That idea revolved around enjoying life’s simple pleasures and making all aspects of daily life a little more luxurious.
I thought about a trip I had taken years ago to Paris. Upon arriving in Paris and walking up from the metro to Rue de Saint Germain, I felt this indescribable, out of body experience. It was Palm Sunday and the streets were nearly empty. Classic French accordion musettes were playing (I am nearly positive it was only playing in my imagination, but at the time sounded very real). It was as if I were on the set of a foreign French film. Over the next couple days I observed the locals and how they went about different parts of their days. I was so intrigued. I peered into the windows of nearby apartments, tastefully decorated and clean. Some eclectic, others tradtitional. Families dined at local cafes for a pastry and coffee, all with impeccable manners. Women were sophisticated with little to no makeup and chic style. Parisians simply lived the best lives they could possibly live within their means and enjoyed every part of it.
A couple years ago I decided I was in need of a change in lifestyle. I wanted to live more pleasurably and bring style to all aspects of my life. I thought about the people I saw on my trip to Paris and I wanted my blog to have an essence of that. If I could document my life change then perhaps my readers would be inspired to do the same. I wanted my life to embody the soul and spirit of the Parisians I saw years ago. My entire trip was surrounded by people that exuded this je ne sais quoi. Cliche, I know! But it was real! I wanted whatever it was they had and didn’t quite know what I was looking for.
I purchased several French lifestyle books in search of this je ne sais quoi, one of which was Lessons from Madame Chic: 20 Stylish Secrets I Learned While Living in Paris by Jennifer L. Scott. Today this is among my favorite books and has enhanced my views on elegance and style. Her blog The Daily Connoisseur is also at the top of my reading list. In Lessons From Madame Chic, Jennifer L. Scott shares her personal experience studying abroad in Paris and living with a very elegant family known as Famille Chic in one of the city’s most beautiful arrondissements. The family exposed her to enjoying life’s pleasures, living in style, and living life well. There are such valuable lessons in this book that we may often take for granted. She discusses a range of topics, from fashion and make-up to the art of entertaining. Frequently, I find myself going back to reference certain parts of this book when I need a little inspiration or to be sure that I am upholding the lessons that I learned. In a sense, this book has become my bible of how to live a stylish life.
I am giving away a copy of Lessons From Madame Chic to one lucky reader. Every Sunday we will study a new set of lessons offered by Jennifer L. Scott and put them into practice the following week. I cannot wait to discuss these ideas and everyone’s experiences reading the book here on the blog. You can enter the giveaway on the rafflecopter widget below. In order to qualify for the giveaway, please follow La Femme Daily on Instagram and leave a comment below telling me what is your idea of living chic.
